A Seasonal Checklist

Propane tanks are fairly low maintenance. And propane itself has an exemplary safety record. If you’re one of Allied Propane’s automatic delivery customers, you never have to worry about checking your gauge or running out of propane. However, there are a few things you should do to get your propane tank summer ready. These tasks will make sure you and your family are safe and make it easier for our delivery staff to get the job done.

Propane Tank Summer Checklist

Take the following steps to prep your propane tank for the summer:

1. Clean up. Make sure our delivery workers can safely and easily access your propane tank’s fill valve without obstacles and other safety hazards. Trim back branches and bushes. Clear away any nests near the tank and under its lid. Clear the tank of all clutter and debris. There should be a clear path to the fill valve to facilitate safe delivery.
2. Look for rust. Rust is an issue that needs to be attended to with urgency because corrosion usually leads to leaks.
3. Order now. If you’re not one of our automatic delivery customers, remember to keep monitoring your propane tank’s level and call for delivery before you have less than ¼ of a tank left. Prices tend to drop during the summer months, so this should be a good time to fill up. With a full tank you’ll know you have enough propane for all the propane appliances in and around your Bay Area home.

Wildfires & Propane Safety

Unfortunately, wildfires are becoming more commonplace in our region. If wildfires are threatening your neighborhood, please take the following safety steps:

• Close your propane tank service valve by turning the hand-wheel clockwise.
• Close all appliance valves and gas valves in and near your home.
• Make sure there are no propane cylinders in your garage, home, or any nearby structures. Move propane cylinders away from your home and to an area where fire impact will be minimal and there’s no vegetation.
• Contact Allied Propane to let us know you are leaving the area, and then let us know when you return home. If you smell gas when you return home, leave the area immediately and then call emergency services for help.
