How To Read A Propane Tank Gauge
What you need to know about your propane levels
Making sure that your propane tank doesn’t run out of propane is an important part of being a propane user! So how exactly do you do this? Well, one way is knowing how to properly read a propane tank gauge.
Understanding your propane tank gauge
Fortunately, most propane tanks automatically come with a propane tank gauge. All you need to do is locate it and understand it, which (fortunately again) is a pretty easy thing to do.
Propane tank gauges can usually be found on or near the top of a propane tank. They are typically round dials that look similar to speedometers or meat thermometers.
You will notice numbers on the gauge (usually these numbers start at 0 and go up to 95). In addition to numbers you will find a single pointer needle that lines up with specific number. Whichever number the pointer lines up with represents the percentage of how much propane is left in your propane tank. For example, if the needle is pointing to 60, your tank is 60% full.
The pointer needle should never be above 80 as your tank is considered full at this point (this is a safety precaution and leaves extra room in your tank for the propane to expand as temperatures rise).
Once your tank hits the 20% mark, you should order a refill of propane. This gives you time to organize and schedule a delivery without having to worry about running out of fuel completely.
Other ways to keep track of your propane levels
Even though reading a propane tank gauge is very easy, checking your propane levels may be one thing you don’t want to have to worry and think about. We have good news if that is the case! Allied Propane has some options:
- Automatic propane deliveries: With Allied Propane’s automatic delivery service, you don’t have to worry about running out of fuel. We arrange your next propane delivery for you based on your previous propane usage – you don’t even need to contact us! This option also includes after-hours emergency services, the ability for you to customize delivery instructions and the choice of contactless deliveries.
- Propane tank monitoring services: For a small fee, many of our automatic delivery customers can qualify for propane tank monitoring services. A propane tank monitor connects to your propane tank, tracks your propane levels in real time and sends that information directly to us. We then know exactly when you’ll be ready for your next propane delivery. If interested, any customer with a propane tank monitor can track their propane levels themselves through a Smartphone app!
